JoSAA 2026 has 5-6 rounds. The first 2 rounds are mock allotment rounds, followed by 5 actual rounds for seat allotment.

Mock Round 1 & 2

For practice only - no actual allotment. Test your choices.

R1

Round 1 - Seat Allotment

First actual allotment. Accept the seat and upload documents, or withdraw.

R2

Round 2 - Upgrade or Accept

If a better seat is available, keep the "Float" option, otherwise lock with "Freeze".

R3

Round 3 & 4 - Further Upgrades

Chances of getting better options based on choices. A decision must be made in each round.

R5

Round 5 & 6 - Final Allotment

Final allotment based on available seats in the last rounds. Reporting is mandatory after this.

Important: After each round you have 3 options: Freeze (lock your current seat), Float (upgrade if a better seat is available), Slide (for a better branch in the same institute).

JoSAA Registration & Login

Register on josaa.nic.in with your JEE Main / JEE Advanced Roll Number. Verify your email and mobile.

Do not miss the registration deadline - you cannot apply after it.

Choice Filling & Locking

Fill in your preferred institute-branch combinations. Fill maximum choices - more choices means better chance. Finally click the "Lock" button.

Check Mock Allotment

In 2 mock rounds, see roughly which seat you might get. Adjust your choices based on this.

Actual Seat Allotment

Allotment starts from Round 1. View your allotted seat and decide - Accept, Float, or Withdraw.

Seat Acceptance & Fee Payment

After accepting the seat, pay the online seat acceptance fee. The fee is different for IIT and NIT.

If fee is not paid, the seat gets automatically cancelled.

Document Upload & Verification

Upload required documents online. Carry original documents to the reporting center or allotted institute.

Final Reporting & Admission

Report to the allotted college with your documents. Also carry a medical fitness certificate. Admission complete!

Expert Tips - Choice Filling Strategy

More Choices, Better Chances

Fill at least 50-100 choices. Don't just add dream colleges - add realistic and safe options too. More choices = better chances of getting a good seat.

Priority Order sahi rakho

Top priority wali choice 1 pe rakho. System automatically best available seat allot karta hai based on your rank. Choice ka order bahut important hai.

Float vs Freeze - Think Before Deciding

If you choose Float, you will be automatically upgraded to a better seat in the next round. Choosing Freeze locks your current seat. It is safer to freeze in the last 2 rounds.

Strictly Follow Deadlines

Har round mein acceptance aur fee payment ki deadline hoti hai. Ek bhi deadline miss hui to seat cancel. Calendar mein sab dates mark kar lo aur notification on rakho.
